Grief Gymnasium with Bea Denton

In this visual thinking exercise, Grief Gymnasium, participants were asked to set aside the usual intellectual and artistic approaches that characterise their practice, and allow a more visceral and spontaneous response to emerge in the form of marks on a surface within a very short timeframe. Considered as a sort of creative ‘limbering’ process that may facilitate a jumping off point for ideas that may evolve in the future. This workshop used an oblique strategy to allow participants to create a series of visual responses to thoughts around grief without preconception or judgment.

The cohort made marks on a chosen surface in response to a list of words that were spoken aloud at timed intervals.

Responses from paula, Moose, Bea, Holly, Gemma, Davina, Annabel.
